1Chronicles 12

1.Now these are those who came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, his helpers in war. 2.They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow: they were of Saul's brothers of Benjamin. 3.The chief was Ahiezer; then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite, and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth, and Beracah, and Jehu the Anathothite, 4.and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty, and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite, 5.Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite, 6.Elkanah, and Isshiah, and Azarel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites, 7.and Joelah, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor. 8.Of the Gadites there separated themselves to David to the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men trained for war, that could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the roes on the mountains; 9.Ezer the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third, 10.Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth, 11.Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh, 12.Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth, 13.Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh. 14.These of the sons of Gad were captains of the army: he who was least was equal to one hundred, and the greatest to one thousand. 15.These are those who went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west. 16.There came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the stronghold to David. 17.David went out to meet them, and answered them, "If you have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you; but if you have come to betray me to my adversaries, since there is no wrong in my hands, may the God of our fathers look thereon, and rebuke it." 18.Then the Spirit came on Amasai, who was chief of the thirty, and he said, "We are yours, David, and on your side, you son of Jesse: peace, peace be to you, and peace be to your helpers; for your God helps you." Then David received them, and made them captains of the band. 19.Of Manasseh also there fell away some to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle; but they didn't help them; for the lords of the Philistines sent him away after consultation, saying, "He will fall away to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads."

20.As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of thousands who were of Manasseh. 21.They helped David against the band of rovers: for they were all mighty men of valor, and were captains in the army. 22.For from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great army, like the army of God. 23.These are the numbers of the heads of those who were armed for war, who came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of Yahweh. 24.The children of Judah who bore shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, armed for war. 25.Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valor for the war, seven thousand and one hundred. 26.Of the children of Levi four thousand and six hundred. 27.Jehoiada was the leader of the household of Aaron; and with him were three thousand and seven hundred, 28.and Zadok, a young man mighty of valor, and of his father's house twenty-two captains. 29.Of the children of Benjamin, the brothers of Saul, three thousand: for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept their allegiance to the house of Saul. 30.Of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand eight hundred, mighty men of valor, famous men in their fathers' houses. 31.Of the half-tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, who were mentioned by name, to come and make David king. 32.Of the children of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their heads were two hundred; and all their brothers were at their commandment. 33.Of Zebulun, such as were able to go out in the army, who could set the battle in array, with all kinds of instruments of war, fifty thousand, and who could command and were not of double heart. 34.Of Naphtali one thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty-seven thousand. 35.Of the Danites who could set the battle in array, twenty-eight thousand six hundred. 36.Of Asher, such as were able to go out in the army, who could set the battle in array, forty thousand. 37.On the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half-tribe of Manasseh, with all kinds of instruments of war for the battle, one hundred twenty thousand. 38.All these being men of war, who could order the battle array, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king. 39.They were there with David three days, eating and drinking; for their brothers had made preparation for them. 40.Moreover those who were near to them, as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on donkeys, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, food of meal, cakes of figs, and clusters of raisins, and wine, and oil, and cattle, and sheep in abundance: for there was joy in Israel.

Ezekiel 25

1.The word of Yahweh came to me, saying, 2.Son of man, set your face toward the children of Ammon, and prophesy against them: 3.and tell the children of Ammon, Hear the word of the Lord Yahweh: Thus says the Lord Yahweh, Because you said, Aha, against my sanctuary, when it was profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was made desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into captivity: 4.therefore, behold, I will deliver you to the children of the east for a possession, and they shall set their encampments in you, and make their dwellings in you; they shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk. 5.I will make Rabbah a stable for camels, and the children of Ammon a resting place for flocks: and you shall know that I am Yahweh. 6.For thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because you have clapped your hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced with all the despite of your soul against the land of Israel; 7.therefore, behold, I have stretched out my hand on you, and will deliver you for a spoil to the nations; and I will cut you off from the peoples, and I will cause you to perish out of the countries: I will destroy you; and you shall know that I am Yahweh. 8.Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because Moab and Seir say, Behold, the house of Judah is like all the nations; 9.therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities which are on his frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth Jeshimoth, Baal Meon, and Kiriathaim, 10.to the children of the east, [to go] against the children of Ammon; and I will give them for a possession, that the children of Ammon may not be remembered among the nations. 11.and I will execute judgments on Moab; and they shall know that I am Yahweh. 12.Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because Edom has dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended, and revenged himself on them; 13.therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh, I will stretch out my hand on Edom, and will cut off man and animal from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; even to Dedan shall they fall by the sword. 14.I will lay my vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel; and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath; and they shall know my vengeance, says the Lord Yahweh. 15.Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with despite of soul to destroy with perpetual enmity; 16.therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh, Behold, I will stretch out my hand on the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites, and destroy the remnant of the sea coast. 17.I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful rebukes; and they shall know that I am Yahweh, when I shall lay my vengeance on them.

Luke 22

1.Now the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the Passover, drew near. 2.The chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death, for they feared the people. 3.Satan entered into Judas, who was surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered with the twelve. 4.He went away, and talked with the chief priests and captains about how he might deliver him to them. 5.They were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6.He consented, and sought an opportunity to deliver him to them in the absence of the multitude. 7.The day of unleavened bread came, on which the Passover must be sacrificed. 8.He sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat."

9.They said to him, "Where do you want us to prepare?"

10.He said to them, "Behold, when you have entered into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him into the house which he enters. 11.Tell the master of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?"' 12.He will show you a large, furnished upper room. Make preparations there."

13.They went, found things as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. 14.When the hour had come, he sat down with the twelve apostles. 15.He said to them, "I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer, 16.for I tell you, I will no longer by any means eat of it until it is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God." 17.He received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, "Take this, and share it among yourselves, 18.for I tell you, I will not drink at all again from the fruit of the vine, until the Kingdom of God comes."

19.He took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave to them, saying, "This is my body which is given for you. Do this in memory of me." 20.Likewise, he took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. 21.But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table. 22.The Son of Man indeed goes, as it has been determined, but woe to that man through whom he is betrayed!"

23.They began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing. 24.There arose also a contention among them, which of them was considered to be greatest. 25.He said to them, "The kings of the nations lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are called 'benefactors.' 26.But not so with you. But one who is the greater among you, let him become as the younger, and one who is governing, as one who serves. 27.For who is greater, one who sits at the table, or one who serves? Isn't it he who sits at the table? But I am in the midst of you as one who serves. 28.But you are those who have continued with me in my trials. 29.I confer on you a kingdom, even as my Father conferred on me, 30.that you may eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom. You will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."

31.The Lord said, "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat, 32.but I prayed for you, that your faith wouldn't fail. You, when once you have turned again, establish your brothers56."

33.He said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!"

34.He said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will by no means crow today until you deny that you know me three times."

35.He said to them, "When I sent you out without purse, and wallet, and shoes, did you lack anything?"

They said, "Nothing."

36.Then he said to them, "But now, whoever has a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet. Whoever has none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword. 37.For I tell you that this which is written must still be fulfilled in me: 'He was counted with transgressors.'57 For that which concerns me has an end."

38.They said, "Lord, behold, here are two swords."

He said to them, "That is enough."

39.He came out, and went, as his custom was, to the Mount of Olives. His disciples also followed him. 40.When he was at the place, he said to them, "Pray that you don't enter into temptation."

41.He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and he knelt down and prayed, 42.saying, "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done."

43.An angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him. 44.Being in agony he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.

45.When he rose up from his prayer, he came to the disciples, and found them sleeping because of grief, 46.and said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation."

47.While he was still speaking, behold, a multitude, and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He came near to Jesus to kiss him. 48.But Jesus said to him, "Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?"

49.When those who were around him saw what was about to happen, they said to him, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?" 50.A certain one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.

51.But Jesus answered, "Let me at least do this"--and he touched his ear, and healed him. 52.Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and elders, who had come against him, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53.When I was with you in the temple daily, you didn't stretch out your hands against me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness."

54.They seized him, and led him away, and brought him into the high priest's house. But Peter followed from a distance. 55.When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard, and had sat down together, Peter sat among them. 56.A certain servant girl saw him as he sat in the light, and looking intently at him, said, "This man also was with him."

57.He denied Jesus, saying, "Woman, I don't know him."

58.After a little while someone else saw him, and said, "You also are one of them!"

But Peter answered, "Man, I am not!"

59.After about one hour passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, "Truly this man also was with him, for he is a Galilean!"

60.But Peter said, "Man, I don't know what you are talking about!" Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. 61.The Lord turned, and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the Lord's word, how he said to him, "Before the rooster crows you will deny me three times." 62.He went out, and wept bitterly.

63.The men who held Jesus mocked him and beat him. 64.Having blindfolded him, they struck him on the face and asked him, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?" 65.They spoke many other things against him, insulting him.

66.As soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people was gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away into their council, saying, 67."If you are the Christ, tell us."

But he said to them, "If I tell you, you won't believe, 68.and if I ask, you will in no way answer me or let me go. 69.From now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God."

70.They all said, "Are you then the Son of God?"

He said to them, "You say it, because I am."

71.They said, "Why do we need any more witness? For we ourselves have heard from his own mouth!"
